Today, our local guide and driver will pick you up at your hotel, then take a scenic drive 15 km (haft an hour) to Amarapura, the former city of Burma. Upon arrival, visit the famous Buddhist Mahagandayon monastery where more than a thousand monks live and study. Every day, at 10 am, monks will line up for their meal, this is a wonderful moment to take memorable photos.
Then heading to the 200-year old U Bein Bridge, the world’s longest teak bridge built in 1782 at the time when Amarapura was Royal capital. Highlight your trip to Amarapura with a visit to a traditional hand-woven silk workshop in the village near the bridge to gain insight into the local production. For centuries, the exquisite hand-made silk has made the region well-known to the world and become more appealing to tourists. Seeing the clever artisans sitting at their loom and creating the intricated textiles before moving to the next destination.
Later on, visit Bagaya Monastery, an ancient monastery which built entirely by teakwood and well-know for a superb collection of Buddha statues. Then return to Mandalay where your trip ends. Lunch is included. Thank you for making your half-day Mandalay trip with us!
